Fit Over Size-35

I’ve been dying to write this post, but I just kept postponing it. But today’s Friday, so I’m just going to sit down and chat with you guys about shopping for clothes with the mindset of fit over size.

I get a lot of questions about how to gain confidence and for me, my confidence starts with a good outfit, it’s as simple as that. Even if I’m having a horrible day, a good outfit can automatically lift my spirits and boost my confidence.

But guys, the outfit has to FIT right, the moment I try to shove my body into a smaller size, I instantly feel less confident and even more self-critical. Do you know what I mean, you know that feeling when you think people are randomly judging you or that moment when you start fidgeting with your top or pulling down your shorts, I just get super insecure when I’m wearing clothing that just isn’t my fit.

So whenever I go to the mall, whether it be J.Crew, Nordstrom, Anthropologie or Brooks Brothers I always grab a size 4, 6, and 8 of whatever pieces I want to try on.

Yes, the people at the store might hate me for this, but trust me it’s essential to finding the right fit an style to boost your confidence.

Sizes really have never bothered me. I don’t know why, but I’ve never been attached to them. Now, trust me, I have plenty of things that bother me but sizes just aren’t one of them.

So I hate when I see other gals refuse not to try on a bigger size because WHO CARES!

Listen, guys, I’m a size four at Nordstrom, a size four to a six at J.Crew and a size eight at Brooks Brothers; those differences in sizes doesn’t mean I gained weight, they just mean I’m purchasing the size that fits the best on my body for each of those brands!

So in order to really create a wardrobe that makes you feel confident, you need to buy pieces based on the fit, not the size.

So here are a few rules I always go by when shopping: one, when I’m shopping, and if I’m debating between a size small/medium or a size medium/large; I ALWAYS size up. Odds are I’m either going to shrink the top (I literally put everything in the dryer) or I’m going to get it tailored!

Oliva Palermo (my idol) said she gets everything tailored, so I obviously had to test her theory & OMG. She even went as far as to you can’t deny the power of a great tailor…and she is so right!

So usually I’ll buy a size up, grab a coupon or Groupon to a local tailor and get the pieces fitted to a T.

Trust me it makes all the difference, also I’m only 5’2″ so I have to get a lot tailored, and some stores even offer free tailoring, so ALWAYS ask!

I’d love to hear your thoughts on fit oversize below. Also happy Friday!! xx Aubrey

  1. education for all

First of all I want to say wonderful blog! I had a quick question which I’d like to ask if you do not mind. I was interested to find out how you center yourself and clear your mind before writing. I’ve had difficulty clearing my thoughts in getting my thoughts out there. I truly do enjoy writing however it just seems like the first 10 to 15 minutes tend to be wasted just trying to figure out how to begin. Any recommendations or tips? Thanks!
