The High Waisted And Wide Legged Trouser

May 25th, 2018

gingham tank with button back for summer the coastal confidence

Happy Memorial Day weekend guys! I can’t believe it is already here but I’m so grateful for the long weekend and the time it gives me to catch up and reunite with family and friends. Matt is still in Dallas but I was lucky enough to have the luxury of spending the long weekend in Connecticut with my family. I officially arrived home a few days ago and can’t wait to reunite with my extended family for our annual party in Niantic. We love getting together and connecting over great food, water views and taking time to remember and appreciate all those who have served and lost their lives for our country.

Now let’s talk about this outfit. This is actually our last outfit from our most recent trip to Costa Rica! Costa Rica was the perfect opportunity to test out the new trends and color stories before summer hit in New England. I used the opportunity to style jumpsuits, maxi skirts and most importantly the high waisted and wide legged trouser trend.

Now, this trend is one I’ve been seeing and loving this year. I’ve always loved a classic denim cut and while these aren’t traditional they do embody a retro American feel, perfect for New England summers. Whether you are pairing this look with a fashion-forward top like I did above, or just with a simple white tee, like I did here, it’s an easy look to transition from day to night. Most importantly this look is ideal for summer because of the wide-legged cut providing the perfect amount of air flow. There is nothing worse than having to throw on and sweat through denim skinny jeans in the humid heat, so when trousers are required I’ll be reaching for these pants in the upcoming months.

The high waisted and wide legged trouser trend is alive and more colorful than ever this year. I own a good denim pair, and just purchased this navy pair, but was ecstatic when The brand Whit  was kind enough to loan me this white pair from their newest collection to shoot on location. I loved how the white and brown complimented each other while creating both depth and character to the outfit. I mean the buttons on the back of this top just make the look for me.

Anyway, I’m off to Niantic as we speak with my high waisted pants packed and loaded! Make sure to follow me over on Instagram to see my Memorial Day weekend plans unfold and leave a comment down below sharing which trend you are embracing this summer? I mean, I love it when you guys keep me in the loop. Anyway, wishing you all a Happy Memorial Day weekend, xx Aubrey.

Okay, this is it guys, we are heading into our final week of Costa Rica content before we dive deep into New England summer and the color pallet that ensues. Shooting in Costa Rica really motivated me to bring new colors schemes onto this platform and my wardrobe. From teal bathing suits to pink jumpsuits, my suitcase was more colorful than a bag of skittles and for once I embraced it.

The other day I talked about visors and retro-inspired attire and this post is kicking off on the same note. The brand Whit was kind enough to loan me some pieces from their newest collection to shoot on location and I instantly jumped at the offer. With the brand’s simple structures and retro-feminine details, I knew Whitney’s designs would be both elegant and fun to shoot in the jungle of Quepos. From the moment I opened the press booklet, I knew I had to share this gingham piece

I love a gingham moment, more than my bank account would like to admit. I’m just a sucker for gingham skirts and this year the trend is alive and more colorful than ever. Now usually I keep my gingham to neutral colors but recently I’ve been purchasing gingham hues left and right. Actually, scroll down to the bottom of this post to see a full range of colorful gingham maxi skirts. I mean, maxi skirts are one of my favorite pieces to travel with because not only do they hide any uneven tan-lines but they also are super light and cooling.

Anyway if you’re trying to stock up your closet with colorful gingham maxi skirts or just trying to add some color to your current wardrobe I have you covered. Just shop the options below and make sure to follow along with us over on Instagram to see more gingham looks coming to life soon!

Texas Bluebonnets

Texas Bluebonnets Barbour Jacket The Coastal Confidence Aubrey Yandow

Before heading to Costa Rica with Matt and my family tomorrow, Matt and I decided to play hooky for a day and head on a road trip to see the infamous Texas Bluebonnets. I think I mentioned this in Monday’s work wear post, but recently Matt and I have really been non-stop. I’ve been working extra hours to financially save up for a big upcoming project (hopefully) and Matt’s been busy with March Madness, keeping food in the fridge and my spirits up; as I’ve been checked out due to work.

I’m the definition of a workaholic. I read one quote that said something along the lines of ‘if you love what you do than work-life balance isn’t an issue because your work gives you life’ and I totally agree. I’m my happiest after we land a partnership, complete an epic shoot or wrap up editing a video. Producing content for you all gives me energy and pushes me to explore new places and bring them to light here on this platform. I’d love to know what gives you guys energy though, is it time with your friend? Traveling? Iced Coffee? I mean, share what gets you up and going below.

Anyway, when we decide to play hooky, which I admit I like to do on a monthly basis. Wait, reading that back makes me sound like I have a horrid work ethic. Okay, I like playing hooky on Fridays because I’d much rather do office work on a Sunday and give myself Friday to explore new places, during the day when the crowds are small and the lighting is good…makes sense right? Anyway when we were planning our hooky day I knew exactly where we had to head. Earlier that week when I was out shopping for bathing suits for our trip tomorrow, I heard a women raving about the Texas Bluebonnets in Ennis, a small town an hour south of Dallas, Again my eavesdropping came in for the win, and I knew it would be the perfect place to get you all inspired for spring.

I mean the weather has been rough in Connecticut, I’m not going to lie but it’s all worth it, just think of the New England summer that awaits us. Wouldn’t you agree? I’m giddy just thinking about it. Until then I hope this post gets you excited to throw on your own lightweight wax jacket by Barbour and visit those stunning New England flower farms that should hopefully be opening next week if the weather warms up. If you missed our New England Flower Farms To Visit post you can view it here

Walking through the fields of brilliant bluebonnets made me think of my college days and when I started this blog. One of my first posts, which I can’t believe I’m linking for you guys but here it is, was taken at the The Flower Fields on Carlsbad Ranch. I was just a sophomore at college in San Diego, excited to learn more about growing a blog while experimenting with my Canon camera and basic kit lens. It really wasn’t that long ago but to think of where I am now and the TCC Crew members I’ve surrounded myself with, really keeps me grounded. There are moments when I feel like I should be further ahead, more financially stable or engaging with a larger Instagram following but to think it all started in a little dorm room with a base model DSLR camera, that I worked double shifts at my school’s gym job to afford mind you, makes me smile.

What I’m trying to say is it’s Friday and it is finally starting to feel like spring. So take time out of your day to reconnect with yourself, what you’ve accomplished and enjoy the weather. Play hooky with your to-do list and enjoy the day with whatever gives you energy. I mean, if bees and bugs weren’t a thing, then you’d find me day in and day out gardening. I really want to get good at growing hydrangeas but that’s another post for another day.

The Perfect White Tee

The Perfect White Tee | The Coastal Confidence by Aubrey Yandow

The Perfect White Tee || J.Crew Retro Jeans (just $39) || Necklace || Watch

Finding the perfect white tee has taken me 22 years, but it was worth the wait. I’ve tried tees from Nordstroms, Anthropologie, J.Crew, Free People, Hanes; you name it I’ve tried it.

So this year, I decided to try J.Crew Factory’s version of the ‘basic white tee‘ and OMG. It’s perfect. Not only is it super affordable, it’s also almost always on sale (WIN/WIN).

Basically, I refuse to pay over $20 dollars for a basic t-shirt, and I also refuse to buy any white tees that are the following: too thin, involves a plunging neckline or easy to stretch out.The Perfect White Tee | The Coastal Confidence by Aubrey Yandow

I’ll be honest, I’m picky! But having flattering staple pieces is the foundation of any good wardrobe. So yesterday, I was running super late for meetings, so I threw on this white tee, and these retro jeans GUYS HOW CUTE ARE THEY!

Matt hates them BUT what do you think!? For the price, I think they are AWESOME. I like to think it’s J.Crew’s take on retro, and I’m not fighting it.

Anyway, Matt & I have a jammed packed weekend, which should be interesting. Lots of photos, lots of travel and lots of fun. What are you guys up to this weekend? Let me know below :)! xx Aubrey The Perfect White Tee | The Coastal Confidence by Aubrey Yandow

Meeting Monday

Stylish Workwear for The Office | The Coastal Confidence by Aubrey Yandow

J.McLaughlin Dress c/o || Bag || Shoes || Earrings || Lipstick

If I learned one thing from college, it was that having a busy and meeting filled Monday really sets the tone for a successful week. Now I was in a sorority in college that had ‘meeting Mondays’ which meant every Monday at 7 pm we met in ‘business casual’ of course.

At first, I hated the idea of business casual especially on a Monday, but then after time, I loved picking out a cute dress and pair of heels come Sunday night. I 100% think dressing up and having a business Monday really helped me stay on task, productive and enthusiastic about my work.

& guys, people can pick up on that energy, especially come Monday when everyone else is reminiscing about the weekend.

But let’s get things straight here, the term business casual is something I always dreaded, anyone else?. I either end up looking way overdressed OR wayyyyy underdressed. So, each year I stock up on J.McLaughlin Dresses, the quality and cut are perfect for business casual BUT also easy to wear on the weekend.

While some gals, might hesitate on the price for just a dress, I will say these dresses are QUALITY! My go-to pink dress, which I wore in 2015 on the blog here, is still a weekly staple for me. They wash amazingly, they look so classy and hold up so well guys.

This post is not at all sponsored, I just feel like it’s a brand you should keep on your radar.

So if you are interested in buying another Lilly dress this summer, I’d recommend investing in a J.McLaughlin staple instead. I have so many Lilly dresses that I thought I’d wear a ton but come post-college, you’ll get more use out of one of these!

Okay, I’m off to three meetings, and I hope you guys go out and kill Monday! xx Aubrey. Stylish Workwear for The Office | The Coastal Confidence by Aubrey Yandow

April showers bring May flowers, but I swear all April showers have brought this year are more showers! We are getting some much-needed rain, deep in the heart of Texas, so it’s made me really appreciate my handy-dandy rain jacket!

The other day while I was on Instagram live, a reader asked me what’s my go to spring statement piece, and this year it’s 100% been this yellow rain jacket! Rain or shine, I throw on this jacket because you never know when you might get caught up in a midwestern storm. They are so odd, guys.

So if you are preparing to travel, venture out or visit me here in rainy Dallas, don’t forget your rainy day gear: a yellow rain jacket,  rain boots, and a sterdy umbrella.

Greetings from Maine Tee

Greetings from Maine Tee | The Coastal Confidence by Aubrey Yandow

Greetings from Maine Tee (ONLY $29.99) || Purse ||  White Jeans || Sunglasses

The other day, Matt & I took a trip down to the Dallas mall when I stumbled upon this greetings from Maine Tee. I was already 75% sure I was going to buy it at first sight, but then I found out it was just $29.99 and I purchased two (oops).

With the weather heating up here in Dallas, my daily outfit has basically revolved around easy to throw on tee-shirts. Now even though I have about 1,000 white and gray tees, I realized my wardrobe really lacked graphic tees, so I felt I had some logic behind this bargain purchase.

Whether you’re in college, high school or working towards your dream job, we all need a perfect tee here and there! & I think we can all agree on that.

Besides tee talk, I want to wish you all a happy Friday!

Matt & I are super excited about this weekend, we are actually going to see the Texas Rangers play, which I’m ecstatic about. Baseball is by far one of my favorite sports, so I can’t wait to see what the Arlington stadium has in store for us.

Okay, I’m going to make today’s post short and sweet, but keep your eyes peeled for a potential Instagram live on Saturday morning! Matt & I have had so much fun doing them, we are hoping to host another on this weekend.

Greetings from Aruba!

Matt & I have finally landed in Aruba along with my entire family, and I could not be more excited. This is my first time in Aruba so I’m looking forward to a day of exploring, beach reading and snorkeling.

As always, I’d love your recommendations, so if you’ve ever been here please message me!

Anyway, before heading down to Aruba, to celebrate Easter with my family, Matt and I had a little of our own Easter celebration in Dallas. We went to this unique and charming bakery in Highland Park, Dallas. It’s called the Bird Bakery and it’s totally worth the trip.

I had heard about the delicious bakery before, but the fact that they put all their mini cupcakes in egg containers just screamed EASTER Brunch to me! I even ended up buying an extra half dozen to give to a friend, let’s just say Bird Bakery has the perfect treats for Easter.

To be honest, on Saturday I was starting to get stressed so we took a break from packing, and drove down to Highland Park Village got us some cupcakes and coffee, and had a little Easter brunch.

It was the perfect way to destress before taking off at 5:00 am the next day, ehh.

On a style note, Easter, dresses can be tricky, especially for New Englanders because who knows what the weather will bring in early April. So when I woke up to a chilly Dallas morning, I reached for a sleeved dress.

I had this Draper James sleeved dress, last seen here, on hand so I was able to still look the Easter part while not freezing off my arms.

Anways I’m keeping this post short, after all I am on vacation. I’ll keep you all updated as much as possible and look forward to more Easter looks coming soon :)! xx Aubrey

Knot Tie Blouse | The Coastal Confidence by Aubrey Yandow

Exploring historic downtowns will always be my go to weekend activity. When I’m in CT I love driving to different towns and taking in the colonial homes, but with the warmer weather here in Dallas Matt and I have made it a point to walk around the different historical downtowns outside of Dallas.

Most of the historic downtowns are built around 1940 and scream that old fashion soda pop shop, grease lighting, retro vibe. I shared bits and pieces of the historic downtown of Grapevine on Saturday via snapchat and so many of you asked for my outfit of the day details, so here it is.

Off the shoulder isn’t my favorite trend, to be honest, I often find myself fidgeting with the sleeves, and I basically gave up on the trend until I tried on this shirt. The fit on this knot tie blouse is impeccable, it’s tied in the front and long in the back…basically shirt goals.

I paired this knot tie blouse with my new favorite necklace! I grabbed it at J.Crew Factory for a steal and I believe it’s currently 50% off. I’ve been wearing it with everything, off the shoulder shirts, white tees and even polos.

Finally I finished off the look with these Mott & Bow stretchy jeans. They are comfortable and affordable, so if you are in the market for a new pair of jeans, check them out.

While walking around Matt & I stopped by a farmers market and stocked up on a few healthy essentials, as we are trying to eat healthy for an upcoming trip. We actually leave for Aruba with my family on Sunday, however I ate three bagels today along with our healthy options, oops.

Anyway, I hope you guys are enjoying the first moments of April it’s starting to get me pumped for New England’s summer. I think a trip home is in my future, possibly for my birthday? Who knows. & the fact that I’m planning trips in June is scary, where has 2017 gone!

Do you guys have any spring travel plans coming up? I’d love travel suggestions from you guys :) xx Aubrey

One trend from last summer that stuck around for 2017 is the basket bag. I’ve always been a huge fan of the classic basket bags, so I was pleasantly surprised when I saw designers rolling out more affordable yet still classy basket bag designs for 2017.
